Temple Emanu-El is a Reform congregation. We encourage and enable our families to find expressions of meaningful Judaism in worship, education and community, with creativity and continuity, through social justice and celebration. We are a member of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
Temple Emanu-El was founded in 1952 by a concerned group who wanted a congregation which would be progressive in outlook, warm in spirit, and in which all might become involved. The first worship service was held on January 18, 1952 at the Burton School.
Our first rabbi was Rabbi Frank Rosenthal, with Rabbi Milton Rosenbaum coming to Temple Emanu-El in 1957, becoming Rabbi Emeritus in 1981, and was succeeded by Rabbi Lane Steinger (1976-1996). Cantor Emeritas Norman Rose joined our staff in 1972, and Joseph Klein became Senior Rabbi in 1997.
Temple Emanu-El encourages our members to be active participants in our congregation and in the community. We support:

Our Adult and Youth Choirs lead Sabbath and Holiday worship making our festival celebrations unique in the community. Temple Emanu-El invites you to join our congregational family, to add your spirit, energy and enthusiasm to ours.
