A few words from Michaelyn Silverman:
My years of service in the Nursery School have been the
happiest of my life. I truly believe there is no greater blessing
than to love one’s work. Shalom so fittingly means “hello,
goodbye and peace.” All three aspects of this word truly
define this moment in my life. Thank you to everyone who
has helped make all my career dreams come true. You have
given me enough wonderful memories to last three lifetimes!

New Director of Temple’s
Early Childhood Education
Temple Emanu-El announces that
Eileen Brand, long-time Director of
Student Services of its Early Childhood
Community, will assume the
position of Director of that program
on July 1. Michaelyn Silverman,
director of the program for the past
25 years, is retiring from the full-time
position, but will be staying on as a
part-time advisor to the program.
Ms. Brand graduated from Wayne State University with
a B.A. in Education, did post graduate work in Early
Childhood Education at Madonna College and attended
the Jewish Early Education Enrichment Project of the
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit in 2002-2004.
While Thomas Wolfe said, “you can never go home
again.” Eileen says she is proof that you can indeed
return home. After teaching nursery school at Temple
Emanu-El for ten years she took a four-year sabbatical,
still working in Jewish education. In June of 1997, she returned
to Temple Emanu-El as an associate director. For
Eileen, the memories and experiences with her Temple
Emanu-El family continue to be a significant part of her
life. Her own children grew up during her Temple career;
she witnessed (and enabled) the growth of the pre-school
from a Nursery School to an Early Childhood Community
and she has seen many children grow up and return to
Temple to share their memories.

New Tribute Cards at Temple
Temple Emanu-El Tribute Cards have been updated with a
beautiful, full-color painting by one of our Religious School
students. It features a hand-painted Torah scroll in red with a
blue watercolor background.
Tributes to Temple Emanu-El are not only a
special way to honor a simcha or remember a loved one,
but the funds collected play a crucial role in our ability
to function financially here at Temple.
Stop by the Temple office to see our new cards.
